Eiger panorama Mittelegi summit with high mountain guide Mittelegi Panorama High mountain climb Vue from Mittelegi Suisse Valley of Grindelwald

Eiger traverse Mittelegi ridge course

Conquer the
Eiger: An unforgettable adventure along the Mittelegi ridge
Nicknamed “the Ogre”, the Eiger has captured the imagination of climbers since the 1930s, when its infamous north face claimed numerous lives. Standing proudly above Grindelwald, the Eiger was finally conquered in 1938 by a determined German team. Today, while some climbers chase speed records (as fast as 2 hours 22 minutes!), we offer a more accessible and scenic adventure via the Mitellegi Ridge. Facing west, this legendary route offers mostly rock climbing in a jaw-dropping alpine setting — a perfect blend of challenge and beauty.

The program
STEP 1 /
Day 1 / 8:00 AM

Meet at our Tarentaise Tours office to get acquainted with your guide and check your gear. Then head to the Ruitor valley for a warm-up climb (grade 4+), reviewing essential climbing and rope techniques.
STEP 2 /
Day 2 / 8:00 AM

Departure for Val Veny to climb a beautiful granite slab route (grade 4+/5) at the foot of Mont Blanc's south face. After the climb, hike up to the Monzino Hut (2590 m) for a cozy night in the mountains.
STEP 3 /
Day 3 / 6:00 AM

After an easy approach we arrive at the foot of the Aiguille Croux for a vertical climb (grade 4+/5), offering unforgettable views and alpine ambiance. Descend by the normal route, return to the hut, then down to the valley.
STEP 4 /
Day 4 / 5:00 AM

Early departure for Grindelwald. Take the famous train up to Jungfraujoch and disembark at the Eismeer station. We reach the glacier through a tunnel, climb short rock sections and follow alpine paths to reach the Mitellegi Hut (3355 m) perched on the ridge.
STEP 5 /
Day 5 / 4:00 AM

Summit day! Begin your ascent of the Mitellegi Ridge — a spectacular, exposed rocky route with technical passages and fixed ropes. As you near the top, the ridge becomes gentler but the views remain breathtaking. From the summit, descend via the south ridge, cross to the Eiger North Col, then follow an easier ridge to the South Col. A glacier traverse brings us to the Mönch Col, where we catch the train back to the valley.
